On 1st November 2016, we declared our manifesto.
We will take it with us on our journey to Scotland’s first film studio.
Each manifesto clause comes with a short film. Click on the clause number to see the film.
Our paths cross, but we walk alone.
While we are a creative collective, we are creative individuals. A different journey awaits each one of us.
We are not small fish in a big pond. We build our pond around us, exactly as it needs to be.
Films are made to be seen – so we will continue to deliver the First Act Film Festival, bringing real people to a darkened room. Scottish film will be enjoyed as cinema.
We stand on the shoulders of giants, but capture the view from down here.
We will learn from the experts – introducing Film Labs. But we are in an age of our own. We will create work that destroys cliche and paths the way to the future of film.
Scottish film is a blank canvas. We will paint with every colour.
Our collective and creative process are not male, pale and stale. We will embrace everyone as an equal.
We paint with light. We are unashamedly artists.
The word ‘art’ is not taboo. We will treat cinema as an art form, and each other as artists.
We only make two kinds of films. Good ones and bad ones.
Though experimentation is essential, we will not use experimentation as an excuse to abandon our responsibility to our audience.
Mistake? Another take.
We will be unafraid of failure. We will reap the rewards of perseverance.
Dear Film school, we are sorry to inform you that your application has been unsuccessful.
We will be graded only by our audiences and each other. We will learn by doing.
We make films. But we are the making of ourselves.
It only takes one hand to write, shoot or cut. With the other, we will grasp at life.
While we are professional, we will always allow place for those who struggle.
Scotland is a sleeping giant. When it wakes, we must be ready with a system – not simply with a budget.
Money is the flood – not the ark. We will build the ark.
We will create an infrastructure that will be the beginning of a studio system.
And we will welcome you aboard.
